In December 2014 Sacred Heart set out to defend their Trans Tasman Water Polo title. Minus key players Andrew French and Nick Paterson, the team set to play in 2015 endured mixed results against a range of teams who retained their Year 13 players. Development was key for all and a penalty shootout win against Westlake College was a highlight in the quarter final. Unfortunately the run ended with a close 1 goal loss to the same Auckland Grammar Side that battled the 2014 side in penalties in the Auckland Championship game last year. Ryan Pike was named to the tournament team.
This January, 32 boys attended pre season camp for 11 spots in the premier water polo side for 2015. During camp an invitational tournament was run for Auckland teams to adjust to new rules including the loss of one player in the field per team. Sacred Heart entered two even teams, with each team showing great promise for the upcoming season, going through the tournament undefeated. Both sides had comfortable wins over Auckland Grammar and Westlake Boys, and shared the spoils in an 8 all draw against their Sacred Heart counterparts.
The Premier A1 side begins their campaign this year at 6.15pm this Sunday against MAGS and the A2 side plays right afterward against Kings at 7.15pm. Both games at Sacred Heart.
