Greater Auckland Athletic Champs, 17 March

The boys come back to school with 16  Auckland Championship medals, which was awesome most notably for the range of events that our boys medalled in; discus was our only non-medal event, and we had two 4th placings and a 5th in this event too. Also there are still twoevents yet to be held (on Thursday afternoon).

UPDATE! – Intermediate Boys 3000m
Gold, Silver and Bronze to our Intermediate Boys in the Auckland Championship 3000m race. Congratulations to James Uhlenberg, Jacob Holmes, and Liam Miller for getting our first Auckland Championships Athletics SHC Trifecta! James smashed his own IB 3000m Record with a time of 9:02.92. Brings total number of medals to 19!

We were so proud of our boys for the way they competed. A very young team, minus the Senior superstars of the previous few years, but a team of future promise and excellent team spirit and true blue/red/blue competitive zeal!  Perhaps this was best epitomised by the 4x400m relay team, made up totally of Year 11 boys. They raced in an open event against mainly Year 13s, bringing home an incredibly ‘gutsy as’ SILVER at the end of the day – standing high on the shoulders of the SHC 4x400m teams that have gone before them.

For photos please see the Athletics Gallery.

We look forward to very strong representation in the Auckland team for North Islands, just a few weeks away.

It was not just the medalists either, there were a big number of boys who JUST missed out with 4th and 5th and 6th placings.

Thanks especially to the team of coaches, Jayne Kiely (superstar), Kirsten Hellier and Patrick Hellier and to the staff who assisted Kim Bolton, Chris Greaney and support from Nick Guise and Angela Little. And to the boys, great stuff and keep it coming!
