Year 13 Physical Education Assessment
Last Sunday around 30 Year 13 PE students took part in the Panasonic People’s Triathlon at the picturesque Maraetai. In ideal conditions the Triathlon assessment consisted of a 500m ocean swim, 20km cycle and a 5km run. Each student had designed their own training programme and had set realistic goals ranging from Excellence (under 72 mins) through to making the finish line. All our boys successfully finished, however, not without a few issues; forgetting helmets, crashing, punctures and broken gears!
Robert Holley was the best placed Year 13 with an impressive time of 62mins and an overall placing of 12th out of approximately 150 male competitors (note: James Mathews Year 11 Sacred Heart was 2nd overall in 58 mins! a promising future in triathlon). Alex McKay was the next best placed Sacred Heart competitor with Sam Hughes 3rd. If you would like to see all the results please check out www.peoplestri.co.nz
The students were a credit to their school and can feel proud of their effort even if some were disappointed with their final time.
Thanks to the members of the Sacred Heart Community for lending their road bikes (Jenni Bruce and John O’Reilly) and for Hot Cycles, St Heliers for their support (bike servicing).
The next physical assessment for the Year 13 PE students is the challenging ‘Tough Guy’ 12km mud run at Woodhill Sands on 25 June.
