2016 is the first time Sacred Heart has come to the beautiful Blue Lakes in Rotorua for a number of years. So this year the boys had no expectations of what this regatta would be like. They came away with a belief that they could be on the edge of something new and special.
As a Bay of Plenty event, the main contenders for placings include Whakatane, Rotorua and Napier and together with King’s (from Auckland) and us, the field was a tough challenge for all of our crews.
The results were as follows:
Under 16 Singles; B Final 8th, C Final 2nd and 8th
Under 17 Four; A Final 2nd
Under 15 Eight; A Final 1st
Under 19 Single; B Final 2nd and 3rd
Under 18 Novice Four; A Final 1st and 3rd
Open Quad; B Final 1st
Under 15 Four; A Final 1st and 6th
Under 16 Quad; A Final 3rd and 8th
Under 18 Novice Eight; A Final 1st and 5th
Under 15 Double; B Final 2nd, C Final 2nd
Under 19 Pair; A Final 5th
Under 17 Quad; A Final 5th
Under 17 Eight; A Final 1st, 4th and 5th
Open Double; A Final 3rd. B Final 2nd, C Final 4th
Under 15 Quad; A Final 3rd and 6th
Under 16 Four; A Final 3rd
Men’s Novice Quad; A Final 1st, B Final 4th and 7th
Men’s Open Eight; A Final 1st, B Final 4th
These are very pleasing results for Sacred and in particular we won every Eight’s race that we entered. Unfortunately Whakatane took the points shield but we are very happy with the weekend.
The next step is back to Lake Karapiro next weekend in the KR2 Rowing Regatta to take on a larger field of schools.
