1st XI take out National Title

The 1st XI have taken out the National Football title for 2016.

Winter Tournament week was held from Monday 29 August to Friday 2 September and the 1st XI were in Papamoa at the Lotto Premier Football Tournament. They went through their Round Robin games unbeaten with the following scores:

Monday 29 August vs New Plymouth Boys: Won 3-0
vs Mt Albert Grammar: Won 4-0

Tuesday 30 August vs Lincoln: won 1-0

Wednesday 31 August Quarter final vs Napier boys: won 2-0

Thursday 1 September Semi-final vs Westlake Boys: Won 1-0

As so to the final on Friday 2 September vs St Kentigern College. At half time they were 1-0 down, but came back to play a brilliant second half and leveled the game at 1-1. After extra time they were still locked at 1-1 so it went to a penalty shootout.

Our Goalie, Henry Evans, saved the first St Kents attempt and our five shooters didn’t miss. Final score 5-4 on penalties, what a game!!

National Title holders for the third time in five years – an outstanding achievement for coach Danny Hay. Congratulations to all the 1st XI players, Coach Danny, Assistant Coach Kane Wintersgill, Manager Richard Henderson and all the supportive parents who have followed them all season.
