A team of 14 students represented Sacred Heart College in near perfect conditions at the ASS Aquathon Champs at St Kentigerns College yesterday. The Junior boys team had four students competing for the first time in a multi-sport race with Robson Wallace 9RR leading out of the swim only to get run down mid-way through the 4km run. Robson showed great fight throughout the race to hold onto 3rd at the finish. All of the Juniors raced very well and are all keen for more racing in the future.
The Intermediate boys race was extremely competitive with Andrew Matthews racing in the top three for the majority of the race only to get run down in the final stages and finish 5th. Matthew Wynne struggled in his weakest discipline, the swim, but came storming through the field over the second half of the run to finish just behind Andrew in 6th.
James Matthews lead from start to finish in a dominating performance to win the Senior boys event. In a competitive field James showed his form is good just two weeks out from the NZSS Triathlon Champs and ran strong throughout to win by 400 meters over the second place getter. Joshua Purdon had a great performance to come from behind late in the race to finish 5th.
A great day of competitive racing was had by all.
