After the regular Touch season, the Senior Touch boys headed out to Avondale racecourse for the Greater Auckland senior Touch regional tournament on Saturday 25 March. The boys had a stellar day, playing four and winning all games in their pool. They beat One Tree Hill, Pakuranga, Mt Albert Grammar and St Paul’s to qualify top of the pool.
This set up a final, with an organised and confident Auckland Grammar side. The boys down by 1, rallied to score 3 unanswered touch downs. With strong defence, excellent fitness and confident skills, they won the game 4-2. This is the first time Sacred Heart have won the tournament in its history. With many of the boys in Years 10,11 and 12, the future looks great for Sacred Heart Touch.
Thanks to Lemeki Namoa for leading the boys during pool play and Thunder Doyle (Old Boy 2016) for coaching the team. Touch will resume in Term 4, with Years 9 – 10 Junior Touch and Senior Nationals Touch training.
