NISS Athletics Champs, 2017

In stunning conditions, under the majestic Maunga of Taranaki, the Sacred Heart boys stepped up to represent Auckland schools with style.

The overall quality of our lads effort was perhaps best epitomised up by the fact that 13 of the 17 ran, threw or jumped personal best performances over the weekend and were also the top medal winning individual school from Auckland.

Medal winners were:

Patrick McElwee; 3000m Open Boys Walk (16:45.27 and a 45s PB)

Brian Lealiiifano, Sean Weir and Jabez Veamatahau; members of the Int Boys 4x100m Relay team (43.94)

Michael Graham, Matthew Palmer and Brian Lealiifano; members of the Open Boys 4x400m Relay team (3:23.30)

Matthew Palmer; Senior Boys 200m (22.64 PB)

Michael Graham; Senior Boys 400m (49.94 PB)

Jono Ansley; Senior Boys 800m (1:56.11)

Sean Weir; Intermediate Boys Long Jump (6.00m PB)

Brian Lealiifano; Intermediate Boys 400m (52.19s)

Matthew Palmer; Senior Boys 400m (50.48 PB)

And that brings a wrap to our Summer of Athletics. The lads will head into hibernation for a few chilly months before re-emerging with a spring in their step to prepare themselves for the Hastings National Championships in December.
