AKSS Duathlon Champs

Sacred Heart were well represented at the Auckland Secondary School Duathlon Champs in Pukekohe on Thursday 21 June with 11 students making the trip south. Conditions were challenging at best with a cold southerly making a difficult course even tougher. Once the racing was underway things soon heated up with Beno Shaw demonstrating great running speed to work is way through the field in the final run only just finishing outside the medals in four. In the teams event Sacred Heart lead both the under 16 and under 19 events after the opening run and cycling legs and managed to hold on to a podium finish over the final run with both teams finishing in second. Congratulations to Jack Ryan, Andrew Matthews (U16 team) and Milligan Hudson and Liam Regan (U19 team). The highlight of the day was Matthew Wynne competing in the U19 event. Again the racing was close but Matthew showed a great racing head and paced his performance perfectly to take the final step on the podium. The boys will now rest up and look forward to racing the NZSS Champs over the same course on the 19th of August.
