It was a long 7 weeks of preparation for our U15 boys who worked on a lot of things building up to the tournament. In true Marist Men spirit and brotherhood, the team never gave up and gave it our best. The team had a fantastic tournament, playing out of their sin and making to the final, a first for Sacred Heart. The team has some incredible young talent including Siaosi Lealiifano and Sione Makasini making the tournament team and Siaosi Tournament MVP.
3 pool games, it was a scorching hot day, with plenty of fluids flowing to keep our boys hydrated:
Game 1 vs Long Bay College 69-0 W
Game 2 vs Francis Douglas Memorial 24-17 W
Game 3 vs Kerikeri High School 39-0 W
Quarter Finals vs Rotorua Boys 17-10 W
Rotorua Boys ranked 2nd, we had done our homework the day before and played a smart game. Our parent supporters cheering loudly from the sideline gave our boys the motivation and determination to hold onto their lead and defend our line well.
Semifinal vs MAGS 20-15 W
We had plenty of pre-season matches against MAGS, they were always too fast, too smart and we never came away with a win in those games. We changed our starting line up for this game to keep the opposition guessing and in return, we played a faster and smarter game.
Final vs St Peter’s 10-12 L
Two top Catholic schools going head to head in the final, we were eager to bring the trophy home, however after a tight match, St Peter’s came out victorious.
