Premier Concert Band awarded Gold at KBB

Premier Concert Band awarded Gold at KBB

This week our Premier Concert Band were awarded Gold for their performance at the KBB Music Festival – Auckland Secondary Schools Music Competition. After their performance they were invited to perform again at the evening gala concert, a privilege which only four other groups accomplished.

The Gold award is an incredible achievement for the boys and the first time Sacred Heart College has achieved this honour. The group should be tremendously proud of this achievement and all their hard work to get to this point.

They performed three particularly challenging pieces conducted by Andrew Uren who teaches clarinet and saxophone at Sacred Heart, and directs the band.

Pieces were:
My Neighbor Totoro
By Joe Hisashi
Arr. By Yo Goto

Chroma
By Kevin Putts
Arr. By Carl Strommen

Charm
By Kevin Puts

The concert band features 35 students from Year 8 to 13 and includes woodwind (flutes, clarinets & Saxophones) Brass (French Horn, Trumpet and Trombone) and percussion (Drums, xylophone, timpani, Glockenspiel etc).
