Hockey is a much-enjoyed extra-curricular activity for many students at our college. Prior to 2010 we had one hockey team which competed in the B or C grade each year. In 2010 we fielded 3 teams and since then we have had up to 6 teams as well as our Year 7 and 8 Wednesday afternoon teams.
In 2012 the 1st XI made it into the top Intercity round in Auckland and then in 2013 the new Supercity competition where the top teams from Auckland and North Harbour compete. We have maintained our place in this competition since then, gaining a silver medal in the semi-final of the second tier of Supercity in 2017.
In 2012 we entered the 1st XI in their first national tournament. By 2014 they had qualified for the India Shield and then the top tier National tournament in 2015 – the combined Rankin Cup and India Shield competition. In the last three years the team have competed in tier 3 tournaments.
We are proud of our Old Boys who have made representative teams:
NZ U21 – Mark Bell-Kake
NZ U18 – Vincent O’Connor, Michael Balle and Mark Bell-Kake
Auckland - Joseph O’Connor, Kieran O’Connor, Vincent O’Connor and Scott Walden.
Counties Manukau – Michael Balle
The 2nd XI team is made up of Senior students from Years 11 to 13 and is comprised of both experienced players and some new to the sport.
Our under 15 team competes on Mondays and this team is made up of students from Years 8 to 10. In 2017 the U15 team made the championship round for the fourth year in a row.
We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of teachers who have assisted with coaching and managing and our thanks go to them.
