Student Services

Meeting the spiritual, academic and social needs of our students is the foundation for everything we do at Sacred Heart College. To foster this, we offer a diverse range of student services to support learning and enhance welfare. We encourage students to utilise these services, and to seek guidance or support from any of the groups should they need it.

Library

Opening hours: 8am-3:30pm Monday to Thursday, and 8am-2:30pm Friday

The College Library is vital to every student’s learning. Students will learn how to navigate the wealth of information available to support their inquiry learning – gaining skills in information acquisition, evaluation and application.

To achieve student information literacy, we provide resources and services that give every student an equal opportunity to learn and enjoy reading. All students will develop critical research skills that they will carry with them on their path of lifelong learning.

Students are welcome to use the library during lunchtime to read, study, research, complete homework, play board games, meet with their peers or relax. Our library staff are on-site to help with any queries, and a duty teacher is available at lunchtime to offer assistance.

Students can access the Online Library here. You will need to log in to reserve or renew items.

  • Student login: student ID (excluding initials)
  • Student password: student school network password

If you have any questions, our Library Manager, Mrs Tracey Robertson, and Library Assistant, Mrs Jane Smith, will be happy to assist you.

Study Centre and Student Tutoring

Sacred Heart College operates a Study Centre every Monday to Thursday afternoons, 3:30 - 4:30pm. Each afternoon teachers are available to provide supervision and assistance where required, as well as senior students who provide tutoring. Students can work in an area that best suits their needs. It is open to all students from Year 7 through to Year 13, in S2 (classroom next to the Library). Everyone is welcome.

In addition to this, subject specialised tutoring is also available during at lunchtimes as follows:

Monday - Science and Maths in K13
Tuesday - Juniors (Year 7-10) in S2
Wednesday - English, Classics, Media and Drama in S2
Friday - Languages and Social Studies in S2

Health Centre

Located in the Clement House wing of our Hostel, our Health Centre is run by a caring group of registered nurses from 8am to 3pm.

If a serious illness or injury occurs while a student is at school, parents or caregivers will be contacted immediately. If students attend the Health Centre for any non-urgent incident, they will be advised to notify their parents or caregivers.

Any student’s medical needs should be disclosed to the Health Centre’s registered nurses. If these change during a student’s time at Sacred Heart, parents or caregivers will need to complete a new student health record form as soon as possible.

Any concerns or inquiries can be discussed with the school nurse.

Tuck Shop

Opening hours: 8am to 8:45am, during morning tea and lunch.

EFTPOS and cash accepted.

Our school tuck shop proudly considers the range of dietary and cultural needs of our students.

Students can choose from an abundant selection of nutritious foods that are balanced over the year to reflect the seasons – summer salads and healthy rolls in the summer, hearty warm soups and hot beverages in the winter. We focus on value for money, providing quality and nutritious food, with fruit sold at cost price to encourage healthy choices.

We offer two convenient lunch ordering initiatives:

Lunch Orders

Lunch Orders is a lunch ordering solution for New Zealand schools. Their vision is to have every student eating well, thinking well and being well. They aim to create an easy solution for schools and parents that enables students access to healthy, cost-effective school lunches. They achieve this by supplying affordable, delicious and nutritious meals for students and staff in schools through an online internet-based ordering platform.

How it works:

  1. Visit lunchorders.co.nz and register
  2. Follow the instructions to set up an account and add your son/s
  3. Place your first order!
  4. Your son/s collects their lunch from the SHC tuckshop

Txt My Lunch

This function allows parents to purchase tuckshop vouchers that can be scanned at the tuckshop and be redeemed for your son's lunch. This is helpful on the unfortunate days your son has "forgotten" his lunch, you can purchase a voucher and have the QR code sent directly to your son’s phone without the need for you to drop off lunch, money or your son having to go without.

How it works:

To start ordering tuckshop vouchers, simply go to txtmylunch.co.nz and choose if you want to text or email and print a tuckshop voucher for your son. The voucher can be simply scanned at the tuckshop and your son will be able to choose from one of the combos.

For more information on our tuckshop, please contact Mr Robin Shah or phone 09 529 3660 ext. 875.
