Music

Active participation in all musical fields is encouraged at Sacred Heart. Music is the known and researched ‘brain development’ subject. It is made up of language, science, mathematics and practical fun performance, which all serve to increase the number of left and right brain cell connections.
There is a wide range of musical opportunities including bands for Junior and Senior students, jazz and concert bands, ukulele band, Junior and Senior choirs, String Group, Orchestra, chamber and ensembles,School of Rock and individual instrument and vocal tuition. The Music Institute now features for students in Years 7 to 9.
For more than 70 years the College has held the solo and group Walter Kirby Competition, which was established to promote music within the school. Legends and Showcase performances allow our students to perform to peers and family while the Smokefree Rockquest, and other similar competitions, promotes our students to the wider public.
Sacred Heart has enjoyed much success in the music field with the Finn Brothers, Dave Dobbyn, Bernie Allen, Mike Chunn, Peter Urlich, Dr Joe Harrop and Massad Barakat-Devine numbering amongst our Old Boys.
Our current students continue this rich tradition of musical talent at the College.
