Auditorium and Br Sean Hanaray Foyer
Our Auditorium and Br Sean Hanaray Foyer were officially opened in September 2013. The Foyer is the main entry point to the public section of the building. It may be used in conjunction with the Auditorium or as a stand-alone venue.
Together these areas provide a multi-purpose space that is suitable for both school events and for hire by the wider community. With excellent natural acoustics, these spaces are ideal for concerts, conferences, cultural group celebrations, fundraisers and exhibitions.
The Foyer is an expansive atrium that serves as a reception and catering space for the Auditorium.
It is equipped with a high quality projector and audio system, suitable for videos, presentations or playing background music. The Foyer holds up to 250 for a cocktail event, or 160 for a sit down meal. It can also be set up theatre style to seat 300.
Our Auditorium has seating for up to 1500, a large stage and a high quality multimedia system. Seating may be cleared to accommodate dining tables for up to 600 guests. Entry is via the adjoining Foyer through a large electronic bi-fold door. This large door may be closed during events if required and is particularly useful for separating the Foyer if it is being used for buffet-style catering.
Stage lighting is limited, but one ‘front of house’ lighting bar provides adequate general cover and/or spotlights. Hirers are able to bring in extra lighting if required.
There is a digital sound desk, with a range of fixed and hand-held microphones which are available for hire on request. Also available are additional speakers and amplifiers plus a Yamaha grand piano.
The large raised stage has a proscenium arch with one curtain and a deep open space behind. A spacious apron in front of the curtain has stairs either side, plus a disability lift on the right-stage side. It should be noted there is no back-stage area, the only access to the stage is via the stairs from the Auditorium floor.

Stage plans are available on request and specific requirements may be discussed with the Events and Facilities Manager.
Adjoining the left hand side of the Foyer is our new Theatre. This can be accessed via stairs or lift from the foyer to a mezzanine floor with entry doors either side.
The Theatre has fixed tiered seating for up to 240, with a flat floor level stage. The stage space has a large proscenium arch, accessed from a side wing and loading dock to the left of the stage. There is also a small wing to the right of the stage which is accessed through an internal door. The stage has a white cyclorama, black tabs upstage, as well as black centre tabs. There is also a small apron in front of the curtain for presentations.
The space is suitable for small to medium sized musical productions, full scale plays, dance shows, presentations and concerts.
To the side of the large wing and loading dock is a comfortable private Green Room, including toilets and showers. The Green Room is the perfect space for performers to change, apply make-up and relax while not on stage.
Theatre AV Equipment
Our Theatre hosts a full lighting grid with a small number of LED luminaires (suitable for general covers or colour washes with two spotlights) plus a virtual console to operate them.
The sound room includes a digital sound desk and equipment to operate four hand – held microphones or headsets. A fixed digital projector can project either on to the retractable screen, in front of the curtain, or onto the cyclorama.
Music Practice Rooms
Adjacent to the Theatre are eight music practice rooms which can be hired for small groups of musicians. These spaces are suitable for classes, seminars and workshops.
Kitchen and Catering
Included within the Auditorium, Foyer and Theatre venues is a spacious highly spec’d kitchen with good access, it is fitted with commercial equipment – gas hobs, four electric ovens, four fridges and a dishwasher.
For larger events, caterers normally do the bulk of the preparation and cooking off-site, using the kitchen space for reheating and serving only. Other catering equipment includes coffee urns, teapots, some kitchenware and a water cooler.
Tableware and a range of glassware is held on-site for up to 500 guests. A full list can be provided on request. Please note, there may be an additional charge for using this equipment
Full use of the kitchen should be discussed in advance of any bookings.

Dining tables, trestle tables, chairs and other equipment are available to hire. There may be additional charges for the use of these depending on the event.
