Sailing

Sacred Heart College has a long tradition with Sailing. On the Sports Honours Board in the Old Boys Lounge can be found the following names:

Chris and Tony Bouzaid who won New Zealand's first major international keel boat trophy, the One Ton Cup. Shaun Connolly, who completed the fully crewed Round the World race on Atlantic Privateer, Drum and Fisher and Paykel.

In recent years, Sebastian Lardies ('18) represented NZ in 2015 at the Optimist World Championships and in 2016 and 2017 in the 29ers class.

Sacred Heart Sailing is open to all. We have a small group of very enthusiastic sailors at Sacred Heart. Students involved in this sport are heavily committed to their club competition and training. They come together for two regattas over the school year. There is the Intermediate Schools Optimist Championships hosted locally at the Kohimarama Yacht Club and the Inter-secondary School Championships hosted by Wakatere Boating Club.

Entry to these regattas requires that sailors provide their own boats which they sail at the local yacht clubs: Kohimarama Yacht Club, Glendowie Boating Club, Tamaki Yacht Club and Bucklands Beach Yacht Club. They sail a variety of classes: Optimist, Splash, Starling, Mistral and Laser Radial.
